Cameron’s returning; Maddux is not :(

The Brewers exercised their $10 million option on Mike Cameron, almost assuring that Tony Gwynn, Jr. will be dealt.

Also, Mike Maddux has decided to accept a position with the Texas Rangers and will not be returning as Ken Macha’s pitching coach; Dale Sveum, however, will be the new hitting coach.

My thoughts–the Cameron move is a bit risky, given Cameron’s age and tendency to strike out; the Maddux departure would have been devastating to me a couple years ago, but I (and likely many other Brewers’ fans) no longer think Maddux is the guru that we once did.

As for Sveum, I think he’ll give the job 110% and can’t do any worse than Skaalen did.  Of course, only time will tell.

so who will be the new pitching coach?
as for cameron, he’s good. who would replace him? corey hart isn’t good enough and neither is jr gwynn.
but i hear tell that the white sox are looking for a young speedy CF and gwynn just might could be the ticket…
