Brewers finish off Reds for solid road trip

Jeff Suppan evened his record for the season at 7-7, as he led the Brewers to a 6-3 victory over the Reds on Wednesday. Suppan went seven strong innings and gave up only three runs on seven hits. Brian Shouse and Eric Gagne combined for a scoreless eighth inning and Salomon Torres came on to shut down the Reds in the ninth to pick up his 22nd save of the season.
Rickie Weeks had a great day. Weeks went 4-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. That’s the kind of production that Brewers’ fans have been waiting for all season. Mike Cameron had three hits and scored two runs and appears that he is starting to come out of his funk as well. Another Brewer that looks to be catching fire is Corey Hart. He picked up two more hits on Wednesday and I feel comfortable that Hart is over his post-All-Star break slump.
The Brewers return to Milwaukee on Friday for a series with the Nationals. After the Cubs debacle, the Brewers rebounded with a 4-2 road trip and have a favorable schedule over the next 10 days. After the four game series with the Nationals, the Brewers travel to San Diego for three game against the last place Padres followed by a three game series against the still struggling Dodgers.
The Brewers are back to the top of their rotation and sent CC and Sheets to the mound for the first to against the Nats. Anything short of three wins this weekend will be a huge disappointment.
